KUCHING: The Ministry of Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development will be collaborating with TEDxKenyalang organisers on events that can empower women, particularly youths, in the state.
Its minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah said TEDxKenyalang, an event that follows the success of last year’s inaugural TEDxYouth@Kenyalang, is organised by youths for youths who will explore the different aspects of the world and how they are interconnected.
“This is a very good opportunity for collaboration between TEDxKenyalang and my ministry as well as departments under my ministry.
“In view that TEDxKenyalang is very well connected to other parts of the world, we thought this is a good opportunity for our women, especially youths, to benefit from the event where they will be able to hear from other women who are successful in their respective fields,” she told reporters after welcoming the TEDxKenyalang organising committee delegation led by its curator Zaiwin Kassim at a courtesy call to her office in Baitulmakmur Building here yesterday.
Following a discussion with the organising committee, Fatimah said the collaboration will focus on the themes ‘Women Who Inspire’ and ‘Inspiring Women’.
“The focus of the collaboration is so that they can bring women who are of substance and for them to be able to inspire our women here.
“This is one of the topics we discussed and we can collaborate on a small scale this year first before embarking on a larger scale next year so that we have more time to plan for the programme,” she remarked.
